A jumper converted by Prosser’s Erik Peoples with 2.5 seconds left spoiled Boys Basketball’s Red Northwest conference opener, as the Champions fell 63-61 to Prosser.

In the loss, Lane’s Shaheed Solebo and Dalton Scantlebury shined again, combining for 39 points.

Lane Tech Cross Country sent off it’s state cham

Lane Tech Cross Country sent off it’s state championship-bound runners this morning, with a performance from the marching band and a walk through the Lane hallways.

The boys team and senior Olivia Ide, who qualified as a girls individual, will compete at Detweiller Park in Peoria tomorrow.

Lane’s annual pep rally was held on Friday morni

Lane’s annual pep rally was held on Friday morning before both the tackle football and girls flag football homecoming games on Saturday morning. The dance followed the games taking place Saturday night with the theme of starry night.

This year all grade levels were welcomed into Lane’s Stadium, oppose to last years pep rally which only juniors and seniors were allowed to attend. Student-athletes flooded the field and watched performances from marching band, majorettes, the cheer team, and the dance team. The pep rally closed off with Brent Bradish, Lane’s new athletic director, recognizing at least two student-athletes from each sport.

Saturday, both homecoming games were held at Lane Stadium with girls flag football coming out victorious over Senn 36-0. Lane’s tackle team also claimed victory beating Hubbard 35-0.

For the 2022-23 school year we officially have two class periods of journalism! The first slide features students in our third period, and the second features students in fourth period. We are looking forward to an incredible school year, and seeing each of them grow as writers.

While the passing game was non-existent for Lane Tech Football in their season opener, the Champions were able to find enough yardage on the ground for a win. Led by senior Finn Merrill, Lane’s rushing attack put up 35 points on five rushing touchdowns in a 35-26 win over Amundsen.

Graduation at Lane is a cherished event where stud

Graduation at Lane is a cherished event where students academic accomplishments are acknowledged through commencement. This year The Champion had 7 graduating editors. At graduation Editor-in-Chief, Mara Mellits, received the Lane Tech Service Award. The Champion thanks these editors for their dedicated hours and commitment. Each will carry the lessons learned through The Champion throughout the rest of their academic careers and we wish each of you the best of luck.

One good pitch was all Josh Katz needed to close out the city title.

With a 2-1 count in the top of the seventh inning, right-handed junior Katz stepped off the mound at historic Wrigley Field to plan his delivery. With the loud crowd cheering him on, Katz stepped back on the mound and threw a rocket of a strike which Brooks College Prep outfielder Kendall Larry was barely able to foul off.

With the count going to 2-2, the crowd went silent, knowing that this pitch could determine the outcome of the game and the winner of the CPL title. Katz, on his 114th pitch of the day, delivered a hummer of a pitch and Larry grounds out to third basemen Louie Derechin, ending the game and sealing Lane’s 2-1 victory. Consequently, a horde of Lane’s players ran onto the field to celebrate their City Championship win, placing May 23 into Lane Tech history.
