Volleyball seniors’ last stand
Streamers lined the gym walls, framing colorful posters, each decorated with the faces of girls volleyball seniors to celebrate their final home game on Oct. 20.
Led by Elise Volkl, Audrey Wilbur, Amy Jensen, Monica Glowacz, Caroline Glowacz, and Elia Telles, Lane dominated Lake View in two matches. Game one ended in a score of 25-10 followed by a score of 25-13.
Rallies of strong serves, unstoppable hits, and clutch blocks made for a game that kept players, coaches, and fans on their feet.
As the girls took the court for the last time, the game became a showcase for the seniors.
Each senior was presented with a signed volleyball, flowers, and a few words from underclassmen teammates. Phrases such as, “great leader,” “hard worker,” “an inspiration,” and “we became sisters,” were repeated throughout the speeches.
Although underclassmen still have their place on the court, seniors were sure to make their presence known. It is only fitting Lane scored the winning point on a kill delivered by Elise Volkl, not only showing her strength, but that of Lane volleyball.
