LUPE performs for music classes
Lawrence University Percussion Ensemble, or LUPE, visited Lane on Nov. 19 to show their skills as world champion percussionists.
LUPE perform arrangements of music and dance from Ghana, Brazil, Cuba, and America. They have recently won the 2014 International World Percussion Ensemble Competition.
On their way to the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, they stopped at Lane to give two performances in the guitar room for members of the guitar, percussion, and marching band classes.
The performances were seventh and eighth periods on Wednesday Nov. 19. Each performance was roughly 30 minutes and showed parts of their 50 minute performance. Both performances included singing dancing, and drum lines.
Nani Agbeli, a Ghanaian dancer and teacher, performed with LUPE as the main focus of their second performance. Agbeli danced with the Lawrence University students .
He interacted with Lane students. He patted students’ cheeks, invited them to come and dance with him, and even sat on one student’s lap.
Percussion teacher Mr. Flygt, a Lawrence University alumnus, helped organize the event.
