Friends show encouragement, support during finals
The end of finals is always a happy moment for everyone involved.
Johanna Bozic, Div. 951, gets very stressed over tests. Because of this Katie Gallegos, Div. 952, who has known Bozic for a year and half, decided to celebrate the fact that some of the biggest tests of the year were over. On the Monday before finals Gallegos decided to do something for her friend and so she began to plan.
“Finals week is the week she dreads the most,” Gallegos said, “I thought making a sign to congratulate her would make her happy.”
Though Bozic took her first finals in seventh grade, she was still nervous about these eighth grade finals because she was taking harder classes than she had before.
“I always push myself to do my best, which can be my weakness and my strength,” she said. “I was stressed, anxious, and nervous.”
Gallegos and some of Bozic’s other friends were able to gather up the paper and get people to write notes to Bozic.
Many of the notes were encouraging: “You did it Jo! You did it! #nomorestress” and “Now chill… you deserve it.” Others poked fun at Bozic’s tendency to stress out: “Congrats on not stressing out tooooo much.”
After their last final, which was P.E., Gallegos and some of her friends sneaked away to change early.
“We snuck back down while Jo [Bozic] went up to get changed,” she said, “We then spread out the poster and all got around it to get ready for her.”
When Bozic came out from changing, Gallegos and some of Bozic’s other friends were waiting for her.
“At first I was very confused and then I read ‘Congrats Jo on Finishing Finals’ and was overcome with happiness and astonishment,” Bozic said.
After Bozic saw the poster, all her friends cheered and she went and hugged them all.
“It made me extremely grateful to have such amazing friends, friends that would be so supportive of me,” she said.
Gallegos’ end goal was to make her friend feel relieved that finals were over. “It was so she won’t stress out about the next set of finals we have at the end of the year,” Gallegos said.
Gallegos succeeded in her plan to help Bozic with her test stress.
“It made me feel like there are much better things in life than worrying whether or not I’ll get a good grade,” Bozic said.
