Boys Basketball prevailed Monday with a 61-56 win after holding off a rally by Addison Trail in the final seconds of the game. Strong shooting and rebounding helped Lane keep a double-digit lead most of the game.

Lane started hot, hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter. They held Addison Trail scoreless until 1:38 left in the period and finished the first quarter with a 15-4 lead.

Junior forward Vuk Djuric led the team in scoring with 15 points, and junior guard Jimmy Mulvaney, Div. 955, added 14.

Late in the second half, Addison Trail began to chip away at the lead behind strong shooting and Lane’s costly turnovers and empty possessions that allowed the Blazers to inch closer.

This back and forth continued throughout the fourth quarter as Lane went up by double digits one moment, then followed immediately by Addison’s offensive bursts as they took advantage of Lane’s late game foul trouble.

“Sometimes I end up getting in a little bit of foul trouble,” Mulvaney said. ”I️’ve got to make sure I️ stay far enough away and not use my hands when I️’m playing defense, and that’s my way of staying in the game and getting out of foul trouble.”

This one came down to the final seconds as Addison Trail continued their push, closing the lead down to just five points in the last minute of the game.

Mulvaney sealed the game with a free throw in the final 18 seconds, pushing the lead to five points.

“You know, free throws are a big part of the game, and it’s something you got to knock down and just go for the team,” Mulvaney said.

Lane’s current record is 4-2 with a home record of 2-2. They play at home again Dec. 6 against Marine Leadership Academy, who currently has a 0-2 record.
