Gallery 2501 open Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch periods

The smell of new paint and the sight of stark white walls greet Lane students when they walk into Room 145. Canvases of painted donuts and an oversized, flamboyant, purple spider adorn the white walls, and four blue cushioned benches complete the modernist vibe the room emanates.

Opened in mid-September, the Lane Tech Art Gallery formally known as Gallery 2501 — will host a themed exhibit every month for students and for the community. Students will be able to see these monthly events Tuesdays and Thursdays during all lunch periods 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Usually it is Lane students who have their pieces of art showcased around the hallways and classrooms. However, Gallery 2501 is currently showing Lane teacher and staff artwork and photographs.

“It’s great that some teachers are getting the recognition they deserve. Lane has some really talented staff members. I loved Mr. Ceh’s paintings. ” Jennifer Gonzalez, Div. 660, said.

Gonzalez is a member of the Art Curators club at Lane. Every Tuesday and Thursday during 6th period she opens Gallery 2501 for students.

While Lane teachers and staff are currently being showcased, students will have a chance to show off their artistic talent in the coming months.

“Beginning October 30th we’re going to have a Dia de los Muertos exhibit — Day of the Dead. Some art and Spanish classes are contributing art for the exhibit,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez and the Art Curators hope to start displaying student art in December. Gonzalez said that students will be able to drop off their art submissions to Gallery 2501 during their lunch periods. The Gallery will accept paintings, sculptures, photographs, and digital art.

“Everyone should go see the Art Gallery. It’s free and it’s beautiful. I love it. And if students go and see it they will love it too,” Gonzalez said.
