Club provides ‘outlet for writers’

Snaps all around. The student takes a seat, cheeks a little red, smile a little satisfied. The teacher smiles at his club, Writing Club.

Mr. Telles, an English teacher, magazine editor, and slam coach, is searching for written talent for Lane’s literature and art magazine, “Revel.”

Mr. Telles began the literature and art magazine in 2005. As the years passed, he has incorporated work from his class and from the Writing Club.

The magazine is full of poems and essays. Mr. Telles accepts any work that is creative, including any type of fiction writing, speech, or critique.

“The magazines give Lane an insight on creative talents and how far one’s mind can go on sole imagination,” said Isabella Altenbach, Div. 883.

The deadline is rolling — submissions are accepted year-round, and students can submit for both the print and digital editions of “Revel” at any time.

The magazine is open to any student at Lane. A student in both Mr. Telles’ class and club, Jed Albania, Div. 552, said, “Anyone with a knack for storytelling should submit.”

Mr. Telles said many stories, after they are published, stay with him personally. One of his students wrote a poem in the memory of the late Byron Jones, who taught English at Lane.

“We wrote that poem together,” Mr. Telles said.

One of the purposes of the literature and art magazine is for students to be able to share their writing, but it has other benefits too, Mr. Telles said.

   Albania agreed.

“This can help with resumes, scholarships, as well as just getting your creative talent out there,” he said.

For further information, see Mr.Telles in room 231 or join a meeting with Writing Club. The meetings take place every Monday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Telles describes the club as a place to relax and share your writing with others.

“Get away from homework,” Mr. Telles said. “This is an outlet for writers.”
